How the conversion works

One inch is exactly 2.54 centimetres. To convert centimetres to inches, divide by 2.54. To convert inches to centimetres, multiply by 2.54. The US National Institute of Standards and Technology conversion table lists this exact relationship.

For example, 25.4 cm equals 10 inches, and 12 inches equals 30.48 cm. These are arithmetic examples, not personal measurements or target values.

The result shows up to two decimal places. That makes it easier to read, but it does not make the original measurement more precise. Keep your original value if you need to repeat the conversion later; converting a rounded result back can introduce a small difference.

Entering a value

On this English page, use a decimal point: 2.54. Leave out the unit and thousands separators. Zero is valid; negative values, letters and scientific notation are rejected. Changing the input or direction clears the previous result so that an old answer is not mistaken for a new calculation.

The French, Spanish, German and Portuguese versions accept their local decimal comma, as well as a decimal point. A single comma there means a decimal separator: 1,234 means 1.234, not one thousand two hundred and thirty-four. Mixed separators are rejected.

Keep one unit system in your log

Label the unit beside every record. If an old entry is in inches and a new entry is in centimetres, convert one before comparing them. A change of unit alone is not a change in the measurement.

For a repeatable recording method, read how to take body measurements. The printable body measurement chart keeps units visible beside the blank fields. To record measurements in the app, see BodyLog.

The converter does not store inputs between visits or put them in the page address. Choosing optional website analytics does not send the number you enter.
